This light-hearted exercise reveals how important sensing and feeling is to art-making. Stepping back from our subject and feeling it helps us understand it in new ways.
• Bristol Paper • Oil pastels or graphite pencil
*Bonus if you notice the earthquake during the video!...
• With your paper and drawing tools at the ready, close your eyes and sense you own head and face from the inside. What is your inner experience of your features? • With your fingers, feel your eyes, nose, mouth, and cheeks with your hands, as if for the first time… • Keeping your eyes closed, let your drawing follow this exploration.
• Bonus exercise: after the initial drawing, sit down in front of a mirror, and let the experience of touching your own face influence the way your draw.
