Through movement and gesture, we're connecting our emotional body to the page. This primal and raw self-expression shows us what feelings look like.
Materials:
• 4+ pieces of Bristol paper • Oil pastels
Process:
• Begin by closing your eyes briefly, and noticing your breath. • Think of one emotion from this list: Anger, Joy, Sadness, Longing, Ecstasy, Love, Fear, Trust, Disgust, Regret, Excitement, Hatred, Awe, and Shame. • Allow the feeling of that emotion to rise up in your body. • You might choose to move your body to express the emotion. • Now reach for the pastels and extend the feeling to the paper. Fill the paper with your feeling, express it fully, then let it go. • Repeat with at least 3 more emotions…
Sketchbook Reflection:
• Which emotion felt best to express? • Which emotion feltuncomfortable to express? • Were there any surprises as you practiced this exercise?
