Overview:

This exercise connects us to the energy of our subject. Sensing and moving with the subject makes it more dynamic and alive on the page.

Materials:

• 3 sheets of Bristol paper
•
Oil pastels

Transcript

Process:

• First, make a 10-minute drawing of a plant.
•
Notice how it feels to draw - joyful, frustrated, critical?
•
Next, draw the plant your with eyes closed. Express it’s life force.
• Finally,
return to look at the plant. This time, move your body as you both see and sense it’s energy.

Sketchbook Reflection:

• How did it feel to draw each piece?
• How did your second and third drawings look different than the first?
• Which is your favorite?
