Many Hands (project visualization)

Phase 1: Create
Over several days in a public park, community members will be invited to spontaneously paint a large canvas covering, using POSCA markers.

Artistic prompts will encourage intuitive, freestyle mark-making and playful visual expression, allowing the surface to accumulate the unique traces of many hands.

Phase 2: Build
On the final day, the painted surface will be transformed into shelter, as the dome structure is constructed and assembled in public. This temporary gathering space becomes a participatory sculpture and an inviting sanctuary.

Phase 3: Gather
This project is designed as an accessible, immersive experience where visitors are invited to co-create the communal shelter, then celebrate within it, together. We will offer artist talks, music, tea, and group conversations, creating opportunities for communal pride and reflection on togetherness.

In this way, the project connects to the theme of Visible Mending. The new relationships formed through shared creativity offer a localized response to the isolation and fragmentation experienced by many communities. I envision this residency as an opportunity to bring people together to create something they could not make alone. The project offers an accessible, multi-sensory environment for joy and belonging, inviting us to recognize ourselves as part of one interdependent web of life.
